Year 9 Career Skills Day
Local business community helps Year 9 pupils develop their life and career skills
It was Careers Skills and Practice Day at Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School on Thursday 24th March 2022
Our Year 9 pupils spent the day exploring careers with a variety of local businesses, as BHGS hosted an array of local employers such as Tesco and Roche, along with Morgan Sindall and PayPoint, CMR Recruitment and our own school counsellor. These businesses provided our pupils with a series of interactive and engaging sessions to help them develop skills fit for the workplace.
The focus was placed on developing our pupils’ life and career skills. Pupils took part in a personality quiz with our recruitment specialist and learnt to build their ‘brand’ through a session with pharmaceutical company Roche. The day stretched from building transferable skills which retailer Tesco coordinated in a teamwork and communication session involving bananas (!), through to practical project management with Morgan Sindall and some practical advice on what makes a good interview from our Finance company partner PayPoint.
Year 12 students dropped in at lunchtime to build their ‘network’ in preparation for their work experience programme in July.
The breadth of skills and types of employers made it an invaluable experience for our pupils and will hopefully help them in their career journey.
