Business Studies
The aim of the Business Studies Department is to offer an engaging and inspiring provision that reflects the demands of a truly modern and evolving world of business, commerce and entrepreneurship.
Studying A-level Business will provide students with a critical understanding of organisations and their ability to meet society’s needs and wants, teach them to understand that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives and be aware of the ethical dilemmas and responsibilities faced by organisations and individuals. Through the study of Business, students will develop analytical and evaluative skills as well as apply numerical skills to a range of business contexts. In addition, they will generate enterprising and creative approaches to business opportunities, problems, and issues. It is hoped that the students will gain an in-depth, holistic understanding of business using business theories to why things happen, business tools to help to analyse situations and make decisions and business models to represent business realities. The curriculum explores the interdependent nature of business activity, influences on business, finance, human resources and how these interdependencies underpin business and decision making. We encourage engagement with topical issues and embed real life business case studies to ensure that the syllabus is broad and deep in its application to contemporary business issues which will also build students’ Business (Cultural) Capital.
