Year 12 Get a Taste of the City

Year 12 Careers event – ‘We Can Be Conference’ 2024

For a second year running, Bishop’s took a group of Year 12s to the City of London ‘We Can Be’ conference. This is a London wide careers event that invites young women from the area into the City of London to experience City roles and learn more about the opportunities available to them. The City employers range from traders to banks, legal firms to insurers. Each business offers its premises in the morning for skills activities relating to their sector. In the afternoon, the pupils all join together in a conference encouraging women into the City’s workplace. This year it was held in the historic venue of the Guildhall. Our group of Year 12s enjoyed a train ride into central London with all the commuters and made it on time! This was followed by a morning of activities developing the skills of trading and negotiation, and hearing about different roles and people’s journeys into their careers. A Domino pizza lunch was also welcomed by all. The afternoon saw 300 pupils compete in a trading game and listen to keynote speakers across City industries from banking to entrepreneurs, all designed to break the proverbial “glass ceiling”. Our Year 12s enjoyed this taste of the City and now know what it takes to make it as a financial trader!
