Rivercraft Minecraft Educational Game Trial

New environmental themed games on the Minecraft Education platform

On 8th March 2023, Year 9 Geography students took part in a user testing trial of some exciting new educational Minecraft / Rivercraft games before they are officially launched later in the year. The Environment Agency has developed three new environmental themed games on the Minecraft Education platform. These games help young people understand more about flood risk and climate change and how to adapt to these challenges.

The students were able to give valuable feedback on the games, the content and the player experience which will influence the final published games. This was also a fantastic opportunity to introduce different career paths, both in the environmental sector and the gaming industry.

Our students said: ‘The games were really fun and I learnt a lot.’ ‘This is a great way to learn about flooding and climate change.’ ‘The games are creative and bring the topic alive’. ‘The games are brilliant; I loved the competitive element and wanted to find out more.’
