Andrew Lewin MP chats to Bishops pupils during his visit for Biology Week
Andrew Lewin enjoys discussing biology and biophysics with year 12 pupils during his visit for Biology Week
Andrew Lewin enjoyed chatting with the year 12 biologists during his visit to Bishop’s as part of Biology Week . Year 12 were analysing their DNA using gel electrophoresis after digesting and ligating DNA into plasmids. The biologists were able to use the latest equipment for analysing DNA as part of the Amgen Biotech experience, where equipment is loaned to schools for a 2 week period to enhance their understanding of DNA manipulation and the techniques involved (https://www.herts.ac.uk/study/schools-of-study/education/centre-for-stem-education/amgen-biotech-experience). After speaking to the biologists Andrew Lewin spoke to year 12 physicists about their resonance experiment and how it linked to hearing and the function of the ear. Finally a group of year 12 politics students and year 11 students wishing to pursue a career in politics, interviewed Andrew about his career and asked for tips for their future decisions!
