Year 12 raise money to eliminate period poverty!

Year 12 raised £385 to eliminate period poverty in some enterprising ways!

Year 12 students were given £1 each and challenged to raise as much money as possible using that pound. The Sixth Form combined their money together in order to come up with fun and exciting ideas to try to maximise the amount of money they could get. The money that they managed to raise has gone to help eliminate period poverty for girls all over the UK. Some of the ideas that they came up with were particularly impressive. One group decided to make their own flavoured lip balms and sold them to pupils at break and lunch. Another group decided to do a staff car wash. Finally another group decided to really challenge the teachers and asked them to sit a GCSE Maths or English paper. Pupils then had to guess who got the top marks in either paper. In total the Year 12s managed to raise a massive £385!

Year 10 Inter House Basketball Competition

House Parr Emerge Champions!

Year 10 pupils were off timetable periods 1 and 2 to take part and support the annual Inter House Basketball competition on Tuesday 4th December,

Each House selected a team of pupils to represent them as they participated in the round robin style competition. Year 10 pupils had all taken part in Basketball this term as part of their Core PE lessons so there was an opportunity to put all of those skills to the test in a competitive House tournament. Indeed there was some excellent skill on display from both individuals and whole teams in front of a very supportive crowd!

Moving in to the last round of matches only 2 teams remained undefeated – House Austen and House Parr who were both on 15 points.

This game was the closest overall with both teams taking and losing the lead before a basket on the final whistle took the 6-4 win (and the tournament) for House Parr.

There were also particularly impressive individual displays from – Ruby Buck, Abby Mann, Izzy Carpenter, Annafaye Fasoto, Amber Keane, Heidi Stephenson, Ibukun Oluleye and Georgia – Leigh Childs Cartwright.

Final placings were as follows – 1st – House Parr (20pts) 2nd – House Austen (15pts) 3rd – House Hadid (8pts) 4th – House Seacole (5pts) 5th – House Franklin (3pts)

A huge well done to all of the pupils who participated in this competition – the level of Basketball on display was fantastic and we look forward to more of the same next year! Thank you to all of the pupils and teachers who came to watch and support the event. Finally, thank you to Miss Cameron and Miss Morgan for organising and running the event.

Royal Academy of Arts life drawing master class at Bishop’s

Key Stage 4 Art, Craft and Design students participate in a one day workshop with Royal Academy of Arts visiting artist and tutor Jeanette Barnes.

Last week the year 10 and 11 Art GCSE students enjoyed an exciting and fast paced workshop, delivered by artist Jeanette Barnes, as part of the Royal Academy Outreach programme. As an introduction to life drawing, the students were challenged to create new art works on a much larger scale than they have ever experienced, drawing from direct observation of a professional artist’s model. Jeanette taught new drawing and observation techniques, using her own observations from her wide range of experience.
