Year 7 House Performance Poetry Competition
Year 7 students express themselves through performance poetry
The final of the annual Year 7 House Performance Poetry Competition took place on Tuesday 26th November. Students have been learning about performance poetry in their English lessons, and practicing their poems over the last few weeks. Two finalists from each house were then selected to present their poem in the main hall in front of the whole of Year 7. This is a daunting task, and all 10 finalists did a fantastic job of projecting their voices and entertaining the audience. The judges this year were particularly impressed by the large number of poems which had been written by the students themselves.
Franklin won the competition with a confident performance by Eloise L, who recited her own poem called ‘Inside My Head’. Second place went to Seacole, with Belle L’s expressive delivery of ‘Chocolate’ by Michael Rosen. Finally, Hadid took 3rd place with Anvika M’s dramatic performance of Denise Rodger’s poem ‘A note to the moth who ate my jumper’. As well as winning valuable house points for their house, the students also won chocolates for themselves.
Congratulations to all of the competitors, and a special thanks to Mr Kench for his guest performance of ‘Jabberwocky’.
