Sports Day Returns to BHGS

July 21, 2022/in General News, Home Page/by BHGS

Sports Day is back!!

On Friday 15th July, Years 7-9 and staff were able to participate in our first full Sports Day since 2019. The weather was predicted to be sunny ( a sign of what was to come over the following days….) and allowed an opportunity for pupils to show their talents across a full range of Athletics events. Heats had taken place a fortnight previously for the sprint track events and due to health and safety, full finals had already taken place for the javelin and discus competitions as well. The whole school was off timetable all day with many dressed in their House Colours to support pupils in their form and House. The music was readily supplied with our resident DJs Mr Lowrie and Ms Asante to get the crowd going in between the events which made it a loud and very energetic atmosphere. It was a fantastic opportunity for lots of pupils to get involved and make last ditch efforts to earn those vital House Points ahead of the announcement of the winning House in the last week of term.

After a tough day of competition in increasingly warm temperatures the final results were as follows –

Junior Relay Winners (Combined A and B team relay results in Years 7 and 8): 1st – 7 Parr (14 pts) 2nd – 8 Franklin (13 pts) and 3rd – 8 Austen (12 pts)

Senior Relay Winners (Combined A and B team relay results in Years 9 and 10); 1st – 9 Parr (18 pts), 2nd – 10 Franklin ( 15 pts), 3rd – 9 Seacole (14 pts).

Track Cup (Form from Years 7-10 with the most points in track events) 1st – 9 Parr (104 pts), 2nd – 10 Franklin (102 pts) and 3rd – 8 Seacole (97 pts)

Field Cup (Form from Years 7-10 with the most points in field events) 1st – 9 Parr (85 pts), 2nd – 9 Austen (79 pts) and 3rd – 7 Hadid (70 pts)

Track and Field Cup (Combined Track and Field from Years 7-10) 1st – 9 Parr (189 pts) 2nd – 10 Franklin (171 pts) and 3rd – 9 Austen (157 pts).

Year Winners – (Most points per year group) Year 7 – 1st – 7 Hadid (146 pts), 2nd – 7 Seacole (131 pts) and 3rd – 7 Parr (123 pts). Year 8 – 1st – 8 Seacole (148 pts), 2nd – 8 Austen (139 pts) and joint 3rd – 8 Franklin and 8 Hadid (130 pts). Year 9 – 1st – 9 Parr (189 pts) 2nd – 9 Austen (157 pts) and 3rd – 9 Seacole (127 pts) Year 10 – 10 Franklin (171 pts) 2nd – 10 Austen (122 pts) and 3rd – 10 Parr (121 pts).

The joint winners of the Ellie Bandy Trophy (The Pupil who scored the most House Points overall) 2022 goes to – * Dyllis O – A (8Au) for winning the Long Jump, High Jump and as part of the winning Austen A team relay * Natu K (10Fr) for winning the Long Jump, 100m and as part of the winning Franklin A team relay and * Ami P (10Fr for winning the Triple Jump, 300m and as part of the winning Franklin A team relay. This is the first time we have ever had 3 joint winners of this trophy and a real testament to the Athletics talent we have at Bishop’s – well done!

And finally…..the overall House Cup positions. 1st – Parr (541 pts) Joint 2nd – Austen and Seacole (525 pts) 4th – Franklin (510 pts) 5th – Hadid (488 pts).

Thank you to all form tutors who helped their form groups to get their teams prepared and all staff who helped on the day to ensure Sports Day could run for the whole school.

Lastly, a huge thank you to the PE Department who organised a fantastic (and long overdue!) Sports Day – Miss Cameron, Mrs Waters, Miss Esterhuizen, Miss Greig and Miss Burnham. Thank you for all the countless hours you spend at lunchtime and after school preparing pupils for all of the enrichment clubs, fixtures and tournaments.

Well done everyone – we’re looking forward to BHGS Sports Day 2023 already!
