Public speaking mentoring with PwC
Year 12 students prepare to challenge
Parallel Histories enrichment club is a group of Year 12 students who have been engaging with controversial history with the aim of understanding both narratives and the complexity of issues by engaging with both sides of the story.
This term, we have been focusing on the historical context of the Arab/Israeli conflict, focusing on the Balfour Declaration. Students have been preparing arguments to explore whether or not the British government should be blamed or praised for the Balfour Declaration; a question we are set to virtually debate later in July.
To help with the debate preparation, staff from Pricewaterhouse Coopers, the accountancy and professional services company, volunteered to mentor students taking part in the digital debating programme. This week Naa Yarley in Year 12 had a 45 minute mentoring session to focus on her public speaking and critical thinking skills. In Naa Yarley’s words, it was a ‘very informative, practical help and great to connect with people in the professional world’.
