District Athletics 2024

Bishop’s Success at District Athletics 2024

On Friday 28th June, the PE Department took 4 teams (Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10) to Gosling Athletics Stadium in Stevenage to represent BHGS at the District Athletics competition.

11 out of the 12 schools in the District attended including – Chancellors, Dame Alice Owens, Hertswood, Monks Walk, Mount Grace. Onslow, Queenswood, Stanborough, Ridgeway and Yavneh .

Notable performances included below –

Year 7

• Erin McF – Hurdles – 3rd with a time of 14.6 seconds
• Bella M – 100m – 1st place and District Champion with a time of 13.7 seconds.
• Chidera N – 200m 1st place and District Champion with a time of 30.4 seconds.
• Erin A – 1500m 1st place and District Champion with a time of 5:00.00 minutes AND her new PB – a whole minute faster than the last time she ran this distance 3 weeks ago!
• Chidera N – Shotput – 1st place and District Champion with a throw of 7.09m
• Bella M – Long Jump – 1st place and District Champion with a best jump of 4.45m
• Bria B- High Jump – 3rd place with a best height of 1.25m
• Bria B, Erin A, Bella M and Chidera N – 4 x 100m relay 1st place and District Champion with a time of 57.0 seconds.

OVERALL – Year 7 girls placed 2nd out of 11 schools with 63 points – 2 points behind Queenswood.

Year 8

• Favour N – 200m – 1st place and District Champion with a time of 28.5 seconds.
• Favour N – 300m – 1st place and District Champion with a time of 45.7 seconds. NEW DISTRICT RECORD!
• Amenze E – Shotput – 3rd place with a best throw of 7.32m
• Aaariya D – High Jump m – 1st place and District Champion with a best height AND new PB of 1.34m.
• Favour N, Isobel L, Mufaro K and Priscilla B 3rd place with a time of 57.4 seconds.

OVERALL – Year 8 girls placed 3rd out of 11 schools with 59 points behind Dame Alice Owens and Queenswood in 1st and 2nd place respectively.

Year 9

• Oliwia U- Hurdles – 3rd place with a time of 14.1 seconds AND a new PB
• Natu K – 300m – 1st place and District Champion with a time of 45.4 seconds. NEW DISTRICT RECORD!
• Zahra L- 1500m – 3rd place with a time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds
• Georgia W – Long Jump – 2nd place with a best jump of 4.17m
• Natu K – Triple Jump – 1st place and District Champion with a best jump of 9.64m AND a new PB.
• Georgia W, Huri K, Scarlett R and Zahra L – 3rd place with a time of 57.1 seconds.

OVERALL – Year 9 girls placed 3rd out of 11 schools with 44 points behind Dame Alice Owens and Queenswood in 1st and 2nd place respectively.

Year 10

• Arabella A – Discus – 1st place and District Champion with a best throw of 20.62 m. NEW DISTRICT RECORD!
• Evie D – 100m – – 2nd place with a best time of 14.0 seconds.
• Jolana H – 300m – 2nd place with a best time of 48.5 seconds. Jolana’s time is exactly the same time as the winner but they deemed the Queenswood girls to have broken the line first.
• Jolana H – Long Jump – 2nd place with a best jump of 3.96m
• Cecile R – 1500m – 3rd place with a time of 6 minutes and 14 seconds.

OVERALL – Year 10 girls placed joint 2nd out of 11 schools with 60 points. Dame Alice Owens also placed joint second and we both finished behind Queenswood on 85 points.

This left us with an overall score of 226 points and finishing in 3rd place behind Dame Alice Owens in 2nd and Queenswood in 1st place.

A fantastic day of competition and excellent effort, teamwork and resilience shown throughout. Well done to all of the pupils in the District teams!
