Reverse Advent Calendar 2021
BHGS pupils and staff donate 624kg of food and hygiene products for Hatfield Food Bank
For the 4th year running, pupils and staff at BHGS took part in the Reverse Advent Calendar project to donate much needed food and hygiene products to local families in need through The Hatfield Foodbank.
Pupils and staff were encouraged to donate a non-perishable item every day from the 9th November until the 6th December and decorate the boxes used for the food to be later delivered to the Foodbank.
Once again, the pupils and their families made us very proud and supported this amazing cause. On Tuesday 7th December, all the beautifully decorated boxes were brought down to the canteen and laid out for judging in Year Group tables. Mrs Hughes had a very difficult job but in the end, she decided that 7Au, 8Pa, 9Pa, 10Fr and 11Pa were the deserving winners of the decorating competition.
After the judging was over, Mr Underwood and I began the process of filling the minibus with all the (very) heavy boxes before Mrs Ruffhead drove the minibus down to the Foodbank accompanied by Dr Venz, Mrs Fautrero-Sayer and me.
We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in donating the food stuff, decorating the boxes and helping with the transportation. This year, we surpassed all our hopes for the collection and we donated a staggering 623.95 kg of goods for local families in need. This has been a tough year for everyone, but yet again the spirit and generosity of the Bishop’s community shone through.
Thank you and I hope you all have a happy and safe Christmas.
Mrs Martin
