Parents enjoy an evening of Biology!
Parents enjoyed working with their children, looking at their cells and DNA during an evening of Biology, as part of Biology Week 2023 at BHGS
On the evening of Thursday 19th October, parents joined their children in the Biology labs at Bishop’s and completed a variety of activities centred around cells and DNA. Families performed a cheek swab and looked at their cells using a light microscope. After practising how to use a micropipette, everyone had a chance to load some DNA into an agarose gel and perform DNA gel electrophoresis. Bishop’s students finished the evening constructing a DNA bracelet whilst parents listened to famous forensic cases and how they were solved using DNA technology.
I presented one of the cases along with my fellow year 13 biologists. We also helped with all the practical activities. The evening was great fun and all the families performed the practical activities like professionals- we were very impressed!
