Another amazing Gym and Dance Showcase at BHGS

February 7, 2020/in General News, Home Page/by BHGS

Another night to celebrate the Gymnastics and Dance talents of our pupils at Bishop’s

On Thursday 6th February, BHGS hosted the Gym and Dance Showcase in the Main Hall.

This was the culmination of the hard work from pupils and staff since the auditions took place way back in November where there were a record number of pupils that auditioned for a slot in the Showcase.

Overall there were over 100 pupils involved from all year groups (7-13).

Acts included a street dance medley, Mrs James’ tap group, ballet, modern and contemporary dancing as well as individual, pair, group gymnastic pieces and 2 rhythmic gymnastic performances to name but a few.

A huge well done to all of the performers involved – this takes commitment, dedication and hard work from everyone involved and the girls performed beautifully on the night to really show off the vast array of talent we have here at Bishop’s.

Thank you to all of the staff involved in the lead up to and including the night of the showcase as this wouldn’t have been possible without all of your help.

Roll on next year!

Miss Cameron

BHGS Young MFL Leaders Programme

February 6, 2020/in General News/by BHGS

Largest number of Young MFL Leaders ever bring languages alive at local primary schools!

Seventy of our Year 10 MFL Leaders in six teams visited Oak View, Hatfield Community Free and St Philip Howard Primary Schools on Tuesday 4th February, giving French, German and Spanish* language and culture themed workshops to KS2 pupils. (* …plus one Italian workshop!)

Young Leader initiatives have made a great impact on the teaching of young people over the last 20 years across many curriculum areas, using a sports team model. The BHGS Foreign Language Leader Programme hopes to engage a whole new group of young leaders through MFL and this year we have had the largest participation to date!

The Young Leaders planned, delivered and evaluated their learning activities for the Years 4 pupils, with an eye to developing and demonstrating leadership skills through foreign language related tasks. There will be certificates and awards for Team Leadership and Initiative to be presented in July 2019.

Our students were, as ever, enthusiastic and brilliantly delivered their lessons to the younger pupils – they were also able to find out what life is like on the ‘other side’ of the whiteboard! They now look forward to their second placements next term (28th April) and the Foreign Languages Discovery Day which is to be hosted at our school on 2nd June in which the Year 10 pupils will play the leading roles presenting languages and cultures from all around the world.

County Cross Country Championships success for BHGS

February 1, 2020/in General News/by BHGS

Excellent effort from everyone and Hertfordshire team selection for Daniella Skater (9Pa)

On Saturday 1st February, Miss Cameron and Mrs Redpath took 14 pupils ranging from Years 7-10 to participate in the Hertfordshire County Cross Country competition at Westminster Lodge in St Albans.

The girls were absolutely fantastic in (thankfully) good conditions for cross country running and put in some excellent performances.

Year 7 runners- Ella Studholme (7Pa), Libby Porter (7Au), Ruby Kiarii (7Fr), Ruby Sanderson (7Se), Erin Munday (7Se) and Jessica Dunnington (7Au). Year 8 and 9 runners – Olivia Riley(8Fr), Millie Richardson (9Fr), Daniella Skater (9Pa), Amelie Hobbs (9Ha), Amelie Robson (9Ha) and Caitie Reid (8Ha) Year 10 runners – Cayla Du Plessis (10Pa) and Imogen Lightning (10Fr)

The competition included an outstanding performance from Daniella Skater (9Pa) who finished 6th in her age group to automatically qualify for the Hertfordshire Schools team to compete at the English Schools Cross Country competition later in the year.

This is a fantastic achievement for Daniella who received her Hertfordshire vest and hoodie immediately after – please see picture above.

The girls were – as always – a credit to the school and to the PE department throughout the event.

Well done everyone!

Miss Cameron
