Year 9 Mendel Artwork wins Genetics Society’s 1st prize
The 200th birthday anniversary of Gregor Mendel is celebrated through some Year 9’s artwork.
This year is the 200th birthday anniversary of Gregor Mendel, the botanist and mathematician who laid the foundations for modern day genetics and is known as the ‘Father of Genetics’. Year 9 artists have been celebrating this event by designing works of art that illustrate his research using pea plants. Their work had been entered into a competition organised by The Genetics Society back in May and after much deliberation, they awarded Lily McKiernan’s green felt tip design first prize with £100. Lily’s winning submission will be used as the cover art for the next edition of the Genetics Society’s Heredity journal. The submission will also be shared on the Genetics Societies social media pages. BHGS was also awarded £500!
Well done to all participants and Dr Bune, and congratulations to Lily!
