Year 10 Extra-Curricular Maths
Year 10 look at how maths is used in the wider world!
10 pupils in Set 1 took part in an online lesson organised by the Advance Maths Support Programme (AMSP). The lesson aimed at looking at how maths is essential in most other subjects, even if it isn’t obvious initially! During the 50 minute session, we briefly looked at how Maths is used in Psychology, Sport and Business Studies and Economics. The Psychology section looked at a particular branch of Psychology, Social Psychology, and why fraudsters carry out scams. In the Sports section, we focused on graphs relating to a Formula 1 Race and how pit stops had an effect on how the race was won. The Business Studies and Economics section looked at the cost of Glastonbury ticket prices and considered whether the cost had gone up in line with inflation.
In Maths Week England, a number of Year 10 pupils volunteered to enter an online quiz organised by the Advanced Maths Support Programme (AMSP). They had to work through a number of problems, only being allowed to move on once they had the correct answer. There were a number of teams from across the East of England region, we did well, but unfortunately, we didn’t win on this occasion! The pupils however worked well in their teams and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
