Year 10 back from the world of work
“Working 9-5 – What a way to make a living”
Our Year 10s came back buzzing from their week away at Work Experience placements. Despite it being a post-Covid year, over 2/3 of our pupils managed to secure a placement from local schools, to retailers, to local businesses, London based Corporates and even a donkey sanctuary! The Year 10s had experience with lawyers, computer companies, florists to a donkey sanctuary. The range of environments experienced was varied! Many even saw it from the teachers’ perspective with placements in primary schools and pre-schools – with feedback that is was fun but noisy! The aim of work experience was to try out “working” and to develop some early career skills in a different environment. Year 10s came back exhausted by the “9-5” and having worked in customer service in cafes and in teams at businesses having honed their communications and problem solving skills. This programme will help them think more about their futures as they start back with us in September. Year 10 relayed that they found their placement “insightful into the world of work and helped her consider the right environment to work in the future”. Job done.
