Shining Bright in Junior Maths Challenge
Bishop’s students excel at Junior Maths Challenge
This year 120 of our Year 7 and 8 students took part in the UKMT (United Kingdom Mathematics Trust) Junior Maths Challenge 2025. 4 of our students were able to achieve a high Gold award and progress onto the next round, Lina Sounni, Sophie Adamson, Mabel Clarke and Martha Dixon.
I have the great pleasure of being able to pass on the results from the follow-on round of the Junior Maths Challenge. It has been quite a few years since we had anyone achieve one of the coveted awards in the follow-on rounds but this year we are lucky to have 2! Of the 4 participants who moved on to the next round, Sophie Adamson achieved a Bronze award and Mabel Clarke even managed to achieve a Silver award.
To break this down into its significance: 250,000 students sit the entire Junior Maths Challenge. Of those, only the top 10,000 get on to the Kangaroo round (making that the top 4%). Of those that get through, only those that achieve over 50% get bronze, and over 70% get a silver award, meaning these students are in the top 2% (for bronze) and the top 1.2% (for silver) of those that sat the award.
Please keep in mind normally only the top sets of each school will sit these and it is usually composed of year 7 and 8. Both our students are Year 7s! This is a truly huge achievement and I would like to take some time to really celebrate this fantastic achievement.
