Second Hand September in BHGS
September Clothes Swap at Bishop’s
In support of Oxfam’s Second Hand September campaign, members of Save The World Eco-Warriors helped organise a second hand clothes swap for the school on Thursday 28th September. Students across all year groups donated their unused and unwanted clothes, shoes and bags for the swap.
The idea behind the Clothes Swap was that in 2023, what we wear has never been more important. The fashion industry is one of the worst offenders for greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile, people who have done the least to cause the climate crisis are facing the very real consequences. Donating and re-using second hand items is one step we can take towards building a better, safer, fairer world and help beat poverty.
The Save the World Eco Warrior club members sorted all the items, folding them ready for the Clothes Swap. As a reward for sorting the items, the club members were able to choose one item each. Once the Clothes Swap officially began, students from all year groups came to the hall to look at all of the items and most who came in also came out with an item they loved! By the end, most of the items were gone and only a few items remained. These items are going to be re-donated to charity. It’s safe to say that the swap turned out to be a massive success!
Thank you Mrs. Ruffhead and Ms. Davies for your help in organising it all!
