District Athletics Championships 2025

Athletics success for BHGS at the 2025 District Athletics Championships

On Thursday 26th June, the PE Department took 4 teams (Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10) to Gosling Athletics Stadium in Stevenage to represent BHGS at the District Athletics competition. All 12 schools in the District attended including – Chancellors, Dame Alice Owens, Hertswood, Monks Walk, Mount Grace. Onslow, Queenswood, Sherrardswood, Stanborough, Ridgeway and Yavneh . Notable performances included below –

Year 7

  • Isabelle I (1st place and District Champion) in the 200m with a time of 29.59s
  • Gracie DLF (2nd place) in the Javelin with a distance of 19.85m
  • Yr 7 Girls Relay ( 2nd place) – Evie R, Gracie DLF, Isabelle I and Jovia- with a time of 57.79.
  • Jovia A (3rd place) in the 75m Hurdles with a time of 13.07s
  • Gracie DLF (3rd place) in the 800m with a time of 2m 48s
  • Lila H (3rd place) in the Javelin with a distance of 15.59m

OVERALL – Year 7 girls placed 3rd out of 12 schools by 1 point behind Queenswood and Dame Alice Owens in 1st and 2nd place respectively.

Year 8

  • Erin McF (1st place and District Champion) in the 80m Hurdles with a time of 13.95s
  • Chidera N (1st place and District Champion) in the 200m with a time of 28.47s
  • Chidera N (1st place and District Champion) in the 300m with a time of 47.79s
  • Bella M (1st place and District Champion) in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.38m
  • Yr 8 Girls Relay (1st place and District Champions) – Erin A, Bria, Chidera and Bella – with a time of 55.69s
  • Bella M (2nd place) in the 100m with a time of 13.77s
  • Erin A (2nd place) in the 1500m with a time of 5m 46s
  • Yana N (3rd place) in the Discus with a distance of 15.82m

OVERALL – Year 8 girls placed 2nd out of 12 schools behind Queenswood in 1st place.

Year 9

  • Yr 9 Girls Relay ( 1st place and District Champions) – Nicole, Isobel, Favour and Mufaro – with a time of 55.44s
  • Isobel L (2nd place) in the 100m with a time of 13.95s
  • Favour N (2nd place) in the 200m with a time of 27.73s
  • Isobel L (3rd place) in the 800m with a time of 2m31s
  • Amenze E (3rd place) in the Shotput with a distance of 7.88m

OVERALL – Year 9 girls placed 3rd out of 12 schools behind Dame Alice Owens and Queenswood in 1st and 2nd place respectively.

Year 10

  • Natu K ( 1st place and District Champion) in the Triple Jump with a distance of 9. 78m
  • Natu K (2nd place) in the 300m with a time of 45.75s
  • Georgia W (2nd place) in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.54m
  • Miruna B (3rd place) in the 200m with a time of 28.99s
  • Scarlett R (3rd place) in the High Jump with a height of 1.34m
  • Yr 10 Girls Relay (3rd place) – Natu, Georgia, Zahra and Scarlett- with a time of 55.81s

OVERALL – Year 10 girls placed 3rd out of 12 schools behind Dame Alice Owens and Queenswood in 1st and 2nd place respectively.

This left us with an overall score of 253 points and finishing in 3rd place behind Dame Alice Owens in 2nd and Queenswood in 1st place.

A fantastic day of competition and excellent effort, teamwork and resilience shown throughout. Well done to all of the pupils in the District teams! Thank you to Miss Nelson, Miss Rollings and Mrs Wright for coming along on the day and to all staff who allowed pupils to miss their lessons to attend.
