Celebrating Creativity and Global Impact for Fairtrade Fortnight 2025
Working together to promote Fairtrade
At Bishop’s, we recently celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight 2025, a time to celebrate the incredible work being done to support farmers and workers around the world through Fairtrade. This year, the school has come together to raise awareness of the benefits of Fairtrade while engaging in creative activities that highlight its importance. The theme was ‘Be the Change: Buy Fairtrade‘. Here are some of the exciting events that have taken place:
Fairtrade Patchwork Quilt One of the standout activities has been the design of squares for a Fairtrade patchwork quilt that is now displayed on the Humanities office window. Students from across the school were invited to design individual squares, each reflecting the themes of Fairtrade, sustainability, and global justice. The patchwork quilt is a visual representation of our collective commitment to supporting Fairtrade farmers in countries around the world. The finished quilt serves as a colourful reminder of how we, as a community, are connected to farmers and workers across the globe.
Lunchtime Fairtrade Chalk Art Another creative outlet during Fairtrade Fortnight was the Lunchtime Fairtrade Chalk Art event. Students were invited to grab a piece of chalk and head outside to the tarmac next to the school’s Lunchbox area. Here, they had the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents by drawing pictures, slogans, and messages that raise awareness of Fairtrade. This was not just about art—it was about creating a visible space where students could express their thoughts on global trade and its impact on the lives of farmers in developing countries.
Year 9 Fairtrade Dragons’ Den In addition to the art activities, our Year 9 geographers took part in an exciting Fairtrade Dragons’ Den. Students were tasked with presenting a new Fairtrade product to their peers, explaining not only what the product is but also how buying it can improve the quality of life for farmers in countries like Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, and the Dominican Republic. They passionately explained how purchasing Fairtrade products helps improve the livelihoods of farmers by providing them with fair wages and the ability to reinvest in their communities.
A Global Community Effort Through these activities, students have not only learned about the importance of Fairtrade, but they have also had the opportunity to contribute creatively to spreading the message. Our Fairtrade Fortnight celebrations have highlighted how every small action can make a difference in the lives of people across the world.
At Bishop’s, we are proud to be part of the global Fairtrade movement, and we look forward to continuing our support of Fairtrade initiatives in the years to come. We encourage everyone in our school community to continue making informed choices by supporting Fairtrade products, knowing that every purchase has the power to change lives.
