District Athletics Championships

July 2, 2022/in General News/by BHGS

BHGS finish in 3rd place in the District Athletics Championships

On Friday 1st of July, four teams from Years 7,8,9 and 10 went with Miss Cameron, Mrs Waters, Miss Esterhuizen and Mrs Newberry to represent Bishop’s in the District Athletics Championships at Ridlins Athletics Track in Stevenage. The pupils had worked very hard throughout the season (and most had represented the Junior or Senior teams in the County League fixtures this year) so we were excited for a good day of Athletics performances.

There were a number of fantastic individual 1st place performances – see below:

Year 7 – Georgia W (7Se) 1st in Long Jump – District Champion

Year 8 – Dyllis O-A(8Au) 1st in Long Jump and High Jump – DOUBLE District Champion

Year 8 – Arabella A (8Ha) 1st in Discus – District Champion

Year 9 – Anna S (9Au) 1st in 1500m – District Champion

Year 9 – Ife N (9Pa) 1st in Shotput – District Champion

Year 9 – Daniella O (9Ha) 1st in Long Jump – District Champion

Year 10 – Olivia R (10Fr) 1st in 1500m – District Champion

Other notable performances included –

Year 7 – Connie D (7Pa) 2nd in Hurdles and Discus as well as 3rd place with the Year 7 Relay Team.

Year 7 – Georgia W (7Se) 3rd in 200m and 3rd place with the Year 7 Relay Team.

Year 8 – Zoe A-A (8Ha) 2nd in 200m and 2nd place with the Year 8 Relay Team.

Year 8 – Bryana C (8Se) 2nd in Shotput with a new PB of 7.45m.

Year 9 – Libby P (9Au) 3rd in Hurdles.

Year 9 – Ruby S (9Se) 3rd in 800m.

Year 9 – Evie J (9Ha) 2nd in Discus.

Year 9 – Ella S (9Pa) 3rd in Javelin.

Year 10 – Natu K (10Fr) 2nd in 100m.

Year 10 – Amy P (10Fr) 2nd in 200m.

Year 10 – Elisa R- M (10Pa) 3rd in 300m.

Year 10 – Ruby C (10Se) 3rd in Shotput.

All 3 4 x 100m relay teams placed in the top 3 in their finals:

Year 7 – Georgia W, Natu K, Zahra L and Connie D – 3rd place.

Year 8 – Evie D, Jolana H, Zoe A-A and Erin W – 2nd place.

Year 9 – Erin M, Stephanie O, Ruva R and Princela O-A – 2nd place.

Year 10 – Ruby C, Jasmine S, Amy P and Natu K – 2nd place.

This left our 4 teams in the following positions overall –

Year 7 – 3rd place out of 10 schools.

Year 8 – 3rd place out of 10 schools.

Year 9 – 3rd place out of 10 schools.

Year 10 – 3rd place out of 10 schools.

This meant that we finished in 3rd place in the girls competition overall behind Dame Alice Owens and Queenswood – a great result! As always, our pupils were fantastic and a credit to the PE department and Bishop’s.

A huge thank you to Mrs Waters, Miss Esterhuizen and Mrs Newberry for coming along for a very long day even with the spells of torrential downpour (see attached pictures). This was also made a little longer by the fact our coach was an hour and half late to pick us up after the competition…..) – needless to say we all slept very well on Friday night!!
