Year 8 Work Shadowing Day
Year 8 develop their career skills with their first work shadowing experience
The whole of Year 8 were out on their Work Shadowing Day on 17th March. As part of developing their career skills, they had to first use their network to find a work placement. They then had to plan and prepare for the day and decide on key questions to ask. Finally, on the 17th March, they had to turn up – on time – suitably keen and “bushy tailed” for their first experience of the Workplace.
The range of work environments experienced by Year 8 was spectacular! Pupils managed to secure placements in nurseries, corporates, cafés, the NHS, radio stations, construction companies, estate agents, Network Rail, beauticians, universities; even in a puppet factory was the scene of some of our keen new workers!
Many pupils accompanied their parents, close family friends and relatives to their places of work – and some even managed to get a lovely “working lunch” !
The objective was to understand the place of work, try out the working day and to find out about different roles – from university lecturer and marketing manager to café owner. They even managed to ask a few questions like ” what do you do Dad/Mum?”
Year 8 arrived back at school the next day full of their exciting adventures out in the “real world”.
