Y13 Tudor Thames Tour
The Golden Hinde and Westminster Abbey Sixth Form trip
A sunny day along the River Thames was enjoyed by the Year 12 Historians as they visited the Golden Hinde galleon and Westminster Abbey in central London. The two famous historic sites were visited to support our History A Level curriculum. The interactive galleon visit learnt about life on a sixteenth century ship and most particularly that of privateers. Sir Francis Drake’s circumnavigation of the globe under Elizabeth I showed Tudor Foreign policy for colonisation and exploration that started in the Elizabethan era. Our tour then took us along the River Thames, viewing the Tudor theatre The Globe and sites of St Paul’s Cathedral from the Millenium Bridge. Our afternoon focused on the Reformation and how Westminster Abbey, a site of coronations since 1100s, lost its status as a monastery under Henry’s VIII’s dissolution programme. The whole span of Tudor monarchs were showcased in our tour along the Thames.
