Year 12 learn about the power of business networking

Our Year 12s got the opportunity this week, as part of their Careers Programme, to learn about a new social media – who knew that teenagers didn’t know about this one – the business networking platform LinkedIn. Our local Corporate partner Computacenter delivered a workshop on the importance of this business networking IT platform for career development. The opportunities LinkedIn can give for gaining future roles and ways to learn about different types of functions and sectors were all covered. Examples of what it looked like and how to use it were explained. Year 12 were then encouraged to use this professional channel to start building their personal brand. As this is a different style of social media our Year 12s were offered the chance to “launch” themselves professionally. Computacenter’s official photographer came in and took over 60 formal head shot photos for our Year 12s to use in LinkedIn and CVs for the future. Our next session for the Careers Programme will be centring on building and improving their CVS with a CV consultant – CV Doctor coming in for a workshop in a few weeks time.
