Educational Theme Weeks
Throughout the academic year, the whole school has the opportunity to take part in themed weeks to promote a subject area, issue or cause.
Cultural Diversity Week
Pupils and staff enjoy sharing and learning about each other’s culture through many activities, including learning to say ‘Hello’ in 12 languages, creating their own cultural identity, “the longest line House competition” (finding a link between as many people as possible), lunch time world musical interludes, dressing up and a fabulous cultural artefact exhibition. ‘There is a little bit of everywhere in us all’.
International Fairtrade Fortnight
International Fairtrade Fortnight is an action-packed event when the BHGS community supports the Fairtrade Foundation’s national campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of fairtrade for the farmers and workers who grow our food in developing countries. It is also an opportunity to learn more about other important global issues (a different focus each year) and for the whole school to explore these collaboratively in the classroom and in form time. There is opportunity to take part in exciting lunchtime activities and competitions so that together we make a difference.
Biology Week
Biology week is a series of events, lectures and activities designed to promote all things Biology, set up by the Royal Society of Biology ( https://www.rsb.org.uk/get-involved/biologyweek). At Bishop’s we organise lunchtime events, form activities and key stage specific lectures and demonstrations that explore the wider aspects of Biology as well as encompassing key parts of the Biology science syllabus.
Health Festival
An exciting week of health related activities to get our pupils to get active and eat more healthily.
Mental Health Awareness Week
This aims to generate awareness of and reduce the stigma sometimes attached to mental health issues. Pupils explore these themes in Life Skills lessons and other areas of the curriculum, as well as through form time activities.
Pupils also have the opportunity to attend lunchtime activities including stress-busting multi-sports activities, mindful movement and mindful colouring to name a few.
