Creative Ecosystems!
Year 8 excel themselves creating wonderful ecosystem cakes, posters and models.
For our school Open Evening, Year 8 Geography students took part in an imaginative project to create cakes inspired by different biomes from around the world. From lush rainforests to arid deserts and icy polar regions, students displayed their baking talents while deepening their understanding of global ecosystems. The project combined creativity with environmental education as students transformed their research on biomes of the world into stunning cake designs, incorporating elements that represent the unique characteristics of each environment. Standout creations included a vibrant cake displaying 4 biomes on one cake; a cake displaying the rainforest biome using upside down ice cream cones to make beautiful palm trees and edible cacti; another beautiful cake showed off the hot desert biome and featured a sandy exterior made from crushed cookies and bright flowers made of fondant, and one that depicted the polar biome with ice and polar bears! In addition to the edible creations, many students also designed informative posters and models that highlighted the features, flora, and fauna of their respective biomes. This project not only allowed the students to express themselves through art and baking, but it also helped them learn about the importance of biomes and environmental conservation. It was wonderful to see them engaged and excited about geography in such a hands-on way.
