Black History Month celebrations
To celebrate Black History Month, Bishop’s has been embracing our shared history!
Over the past two weeks, pupils have been learning about the history, achievements and contributions of Black and Asian people in their lessons, form time and enrichment clubs to celebrate Black History Month. There has been a real buzz of excitement around the school as pupils and staff have come together to share the important stories of the past. Pupils have learnt about Black Tudors in History lessons, Black and Asian musicians, playwrights, mathematicians and scientists. They have explored language, poetry, plays, culture and art, including experimenting with Indian ink. As part of an Expressive Arts and Humanities House Competition, pupils have been celebrating their own cultural heritage through art, for which we have had some truly exceptional pieces! During form time this week, pupils have taken part in activities created by pupils in their year group. Our celebrations have culminated in the whole school making pledges for positive change, which is a fantastic example of just how proactive our pupils are.
I would like to say a huge thank you and a special congratulations to the pupils who have worked so hard to prepare and deliver activities! It has been fantastic to see so many presentations and activities that the pupils themselves wanted to share and take part in. It has been such a wonderful experience seeing everyone come together collaboratively to celebrate Black History Month 2020 and embrace our history!
