Biologists bring Biotechnology to Bishop’s
Year 12 Biologists learn about the latest biotechnology research and gain hands on experience using the latest equipment.
On Monday 11th October, as part of Biology Week, I had a morning of DNA manipulation and analysis along with my fellow biologists in year 12. We used digestive enzymes to cut 2 plasmids and remove the red fluorescent gene. We then ligated the gene into another, expression plasmid and analysed our results using DNA gel electrophoresis. The techniques and equipment we used were state of the art and we were very lucky to use these as part of the Amgen Biotech experience (https://www.herts.ac.uk/stem-centre/amgen).
