Bail is granted at the University of Hertfordshire
On 7th November 2024, 34 Year 12 A-Level Law students visited the University of Hertfordshire Law School
Law students from the University Law School ran an informative session about police powers of stop and search, including identifying whether a stop and search was lawful. Then the students enjoyed a sample lecture on murder. This brought about extensive and heated debate as to the rights and wrongs of a case about conjoined twins, where the Court allowed the twins to be separated even though it would lead to the certain death of one of the twins.
A highlight of the trip was a mock bail hearing in the University’s replica Crown Court. Four A-Level law students volunteered to play the defence and prosecution lawyers and two other Year 12 students offered to be judges and decide whether bail should be granted. The trip ended with other Year 12 students dressing up in wigs and gowns, a career goal for many and an inspiring end to the day!
