Applying Fibonacci Sequences to Spiral Designs
Year 7 Maths applied the pattern of the Fibonacci sequences to growth spiral designs in their Maths lesson
In Maths, Year 7 pupils are currently studying number sequences including Fibonacci sequences. This is a numerical sequence produced by adding the two previous numbers in the sequence together: 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34 etc. When we make squares with the numbers in the sequence, we can produce a nice spiral. Interestingly this spiral appears throughout the natural world in the shape of shells, the spiral of seeds on a sunflower, the growth of leaves on a plant and in many other places. Year 7 pupils applied the Fibonacci sequences to create these growth spiral designs.
