Year 8 geographers visit Kew Gardens

September 30, 2021/in General News/by BHGS

An exciting fieldtrip to Kew Gardens

To help learn about plants in the different ecosystems from across the globe, Year 8 geographers got a chance to visit Kew Gardens on Thursday 30th September. The girls enjoyed a fun day out, visiting Kew’s Treetop walk, the Palm House and the Princess of Wales Conservatory. This was an opportunity for the Year 8s to see how the vegetation from each biome adapts to its unique climate and environment. We had a great day learning about hot desert cacti with their rolled up leaves (spikes) to reduce transpiration and tropical rainforest plants with their drip tips to shed the heavy rain. Thank you to Mrs Langston for organising the Kew Gardens visit!.

Upcycling Project

September 20, 2021/in General News/by BHGS

Save the World Club make creative jeans pocket wall hangings

Save the World Club have had fun this half term upcycling old jeans into lovely pocket wall hangings. Old jeans were donated by members of the Bishop’s community. We cut out the front and back pocket sections of the jeans and sandwiched the jean fabric between the two parts of the embroidery hoop and secured by twisting the screw tightly at the top! We put colourful washi tape on the outside ring and embroidered designs on the pocket.

The girls really enjoyed being creative. The end product is a fantastic pocket wall hanging to put our phones in securely, or put small items in, such as make up or a hairbrush.

A really great upcycling idea. Why not have a go yourself?

Positive vibes

September 9, 2021/in House Hadid/by BHGS

Spreading positivity

11Hadid have been working on ways they can build house spirit with the other form groups in house Hadid. The first activity they have been working on is spreading positive messages and trying to motivate others through inspiring quotes.

Elizabeth Grayson is carrying out research to find quotes that will inspire the other year groups who are also in Hadid. Amaani Soetan is creating by hand lovely images displaying these quotes. They have made a copy for each of the forms in house Hadid to display on their notice board. Each week they will research and design a new one to share.
