Welcome to the Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School website

I am delighted to have this opportunity to tell you more about our school and I hope that you will read our prospectus and visit us to see for yourselves why we are so proud of our pupils and their achievements which continue to improve year on year. We are thrilled that, during our recent Ofsted inspection in February 2016, inspectors confirmed our self-evaluation and judged us to be “Outstanding” in all inspection categories.

Most visitors’ first impressions of the school are of a friendly, lively and stimulating community where we emphasise the importance of the individual’s contribution and take pleasure in celebrating achievement. You will see evidence of this from the way girls work purposefully in their lessons, from examples of their work displayed around the school and from the high participation rates in enrichment activities, including sport, drama, dance, music, science and revision / booster classes!

Our curriculum, which is detailed on this website, challenges the girls and promotes their academic and social development by maintaining the best of the traditional values of this school, while offering a forward-looking education to equip your daughters for life in this rapidly changing technological world. It includes a full range of academic subjects and from Year 10, some more practical / vocational options to suit individual needs.

As well as a broad and balanced curriculum we aim to offer a full programme of imaginative and exciting things to do at lunchtime and after school because we believe that these are just as important in developing interesting, well-educated and responsible young people. We are committed to developing the whole person, to encouraging girls to explore their interests in a wide variety of ways and to promoting curiosity of mind, independence of spirit and a love of learning which continues throughout their lives.

We also aim to reinforce the sound moral values that parents will already have instilled in their daughters. We recognise and praise achievement at all levels of ability believing that girls succeed best when we have made clear our high expectations of them.  These reflect our core values:

  • Striving for excellence by making maximum effort in their learning and participation – Ambition
  • Working independently and as a member of a team – Trust and Teamwork
  • Displaying considerate and sensitive behaviour towards other members of our community –Respect and Kindness
  • Taking pride in their personal appearance and standards – Honesty

In order to achieve these high standards, we acknowledge the value of an effective home/school partnership and work closely with parents and carers to help all girls gain the most from the seven years spent with us. Our success stems from the sharing of our aims by all members of our community – girls, parents/carers, all staff and governors and we encourage you to keep up to date with events at the school through this website, our Facebook page and Twitter.
