Update on the new building development
We are delighted that Bishop’s Hatfield has been chosen by the government to be in the first batch of schools to be rebuilt under the government’s Priority Schools Building Programme. This is the first new secondary school to be completely rebuilt in the Welwyn Hatfield area for many years. The target date for moving into the new building is now January 2017 and the building is now nearing completion. The new MUGA (hard courts) at the rear of the school is now being used for sports and works on the main building continue apace with brickwork being laid and windows fitted. In addition to this our Pupil Support Centre was lifted by crane last year and moved away from the building site.

As we receive more information, we will keep parents and carers informed. In the meantime, please be reassured that teaching and learning continues as usual. With such ample grounds, the construction work is taking place on a fenced off part of the existing site, completely separate from the existing buildings. Once the new building is complete, then the old buildings will be demolished. We are very excited by the prospect of a brand new building and the facilities this will offer. In particular, we will be provided with a sports hall and a dance studio as well as a new drama studio and hall. A new drive in and drop off zone will be established as well as enhanced car-parking. Although we have the challenge of kitting out the school with computers and teaching equipment, the building will be fully wired for high volume computer use including wifi access.
We have recently launched our School Fund to raise the funds we need to provide new furniture and IT for the new building. If you feel able to make a donation, please visit the Support Us section on the home page of this website. Alternatively, we would welcome any support you can give in terms of fundraising activities and seeking sponsorships.
Please note: The safety of our pupils is paramount and so during the period of the building works, there will be no vehicular access for parents and carers. We apologise for any inconvenience.
