Health And Social Care

Health and Social Care is a popular and useful vocational course to study. We offer it both as a Level 2 BTEC and a Level 3 BTEC. It involves continual study throughout the courses and most assessment takes place continuously by carefully designed, assessed and moderated assignments. Students have the opportunity to experience visits out, guest speakers and, at Level 3, targeted work experience sessions. The structure of the courses ensures that students have the opportunity to develop independent learning skills that will set them in good stead for study in further or higher education.

KS4

At KS4 we offer Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Award, equivalent to GCSE. 25% of the qualification is assessed by examinable components and 75% is assessed by internally marked and carefully verified assessments. Final grading can be Distinction*, Distinction, Merit or Pass, equivalent to GCSE grade A*-C.

Topics such as Human Lifespan Development, Communication, Values in Health and Social Care and Nutrition will be delivered. Assignments may take the form of reports, training materials, posters, powerpoints, videos, role plays or interviews.

Continual study is essential throughout the year thus developing independent learning skills requiring students to take responsibility for their own education right from the start. Attendance is crucial and deadlines must be adhered to without fail. Most homework will take the form of specific stages of the course assignments. Lessons will often require students to carry out practical work in a safe and mature manner. Optional specialist units are covered, within which teachers and students can select those that suit the students’ interests.
